It is very important to write clear
instructions. Many clay students and crafters are dependent
on the clarity and accuracy of instructions to make
your projects. To make it easier to write, below please
find some General Tips for your reference. Also, we
ask that you review and follow our Trademark Guidelines
when designing with and writing about Makin's Clay.
-
Measure the size of the clay and
estimate how much you use. For your convenience,
please use our Conversion
Chart in the website of www.makinsclay.com.
(Note: We prefer using the international metric
system if possible.)
-
Be careful of color mixing, marbling
or blending of the clay, it's too late to go back.
-
When applying slices to a sheet,
it is best to cut thin slices. Roll a few slices
in at a time, rolling in several directions so that
they flatten evenly.
-
Take thorough notes as you design,
so that you can accurately remember the steps to
make the project.
-
All projects must include a complete
list of all materials used - brand names if applicable,
plus step-by-step instructions and any necessary
illustration or diagrams.
-
Take the Makin's Clay
Instruction Book by Design Originals for a reference
or any other clay publications to get some ideas.
-
Keep the instructions as simple and
short as possible. The photos help to explain some
of the instruction and keep the step-by-step photos
to a minimum.
-
Keep the instructions clear yet concise.
A design with three pages of instructions may need
more space than an editor can provide.
-
Keep the format consistent. For
example once a format is established, follow it
through throughout the entire website projects.
-
If possible, have someone else read
through the instructions to see if they can follow
them.
-
Proofreading is very important.
Be sure you do not count on spell check to catch
your errors - if you have used the wrong word but
spelled it correctly, spell check will not flag
it for you.
